
Job Description - Senior Network Engineer – Mobility and Wireless
Summary
This position provides both engineering pre-sales and implementation services to PBM’s wireless/mobility networking practice. PBM’s wireless networking practice, based primarily on Cisco technologies, is focused on planning, designing, implementing, and managing wireless networking solutions for our clients.
Required Technical and Work Experience
- 5+ years hands on experience planning, designing, and implementing Cisco’s wireless product line
- Extensive hands on experience with Cisco Wireless Access Points (such as Aironet), Cisco wireless controllers (such as the 5500 series), point to point wireless bridges, and related technologies
- Experience configuring ACS, LDAP, and other authentication technologies to support a wireless infrastructure
- Experience preparing both onsite and predictive wireless coverage (heat) maps and assessments, using applications such as AirMagnet
- Experience gathering customer requirements, whiteboarding/presenting solutions, developing a Bill of Materials (BOM) and preparing project Statements of Work (SOWs)
- Expertise using Cisco tools to develop a project Bill of Materials, including proper software licensing
- 5+ years experience with core Cisco routing and switching technologies (2900 routers, 3900 routers, 7200 routers, Catalyst 2960, 3560, 3750, 4500 and 6500 switches)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desired Technical and Work Experience
- Consulting experience. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience with a technology vendor or systems integrator selling, designing, and implementing Cisco wireless systems and solutions
- Experience with network security technologies, with a focus on Cisco firewalls, IPS, and IDS
- Experience with Aruba or other vendor wireless technologies
- Experience supporting wireless applications such as RFID, location tracking, etc.
- Experience with complementary vendor technologies such as Symbol/Motorola handheld POS or scanner devices
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a pre-sales engineer for PBM’s networking practice
- Work with sales team to develop opportunities with new and existing clients
- Lead technical sessions with clients to discover requirements and develop solutions
- Prepare project proposals including Bill of Materials, Engineering Professional Services Estimate, and Statement of Work
- Present solutions to clients
- Serve as a “hands on” post-sales implementation engineer implementing and supporting Cisco networking projects
- Serve as engineering lead and senior technical resource on implementation projects, providing guidance to PBM’s engineering team to ensure successful project delivery
- Mentor and develop junior engineers
- Maintain and develop relationships with clients and vendor partners such as Cisco
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies
- Maintain technical certifications as required
Education/Certifications
- CCNP/CCDA required
- CCIE (wireless, route/switch or security) strongly preferred
- Four-year degree preferred
- Hands-on experience required
